WAH WAH DO'S & DONTS

"So easy even your Drummer could figure it out!"
No, it's not the mandatory Drummer joke opening - this is serious, you need good rhythm to use a Wah skillfully. It's more than just switching the sucker on and moving your foot up and down. Like a great many things in life, using a Wah Wah well is all down to timing!

To get a quick idea of how many cool things you can do with a Wah by merely altering exactly how and when you open and close the pedal, check this simple but effective exercise out...

Start by repeating one of your favourite rock or blues licks over and over. Then, switch on your Wah and open and close it in time with your playing - just like tapping your foot, your pedal should be fully closed (down) on the "1", "2", "3" & "4" count and fully open (up) on the "and" counts.

Once you're used to that, reverse the Wah action - open on "1" and close on the "and". Sounds different doesn't it?

Now, try speeding up the Wah action to double time closed on "1" and "and" and open in between. Different again? - Cool stuff! Once you've cracked that, reverse it again like before.

Next, slow the movement down - closed on "1" and "3" and open on "2" and "4". Then (wait for it!) reverse the action.

You've just played the same lick with 6 totally different treatments - simple stuff eh?
